Chinoiserie can glam up any space. There is a romance to the motifs and figures of Chinoiserie, often pagodas, fretwork, Chinese figures. Recently I decorated a master bedroom with mirrored tables and chinoiserie and the result was magical indeed. Chinoiserie was at its height in the 18th century when European furniture designers borrowed decorative motifs of Chinese furniture, such as the fretwork and applied it to their own furniture form. The result was quite different from the look of Chinese furniture and it was very beautiful.
