Tell us a bit about the design?

This beautiful classic kitchen was designed for a busy client who loves to cook and spend time with her family and friends. We wanted to design a space that really captured her soul.  Her beautiful china, antique silver tea kettles and crystal were part of our inspiration.  We expanded this kitchen by adding to the back of the house.  We also added tall French doors leading to her exquisite garden and pool.  We created a visually separate space for our client’s treasured china, along with a wet bar. So although this kitchen is large, it visually fits with the rest of the home.  As our client loves to cook and entertain we added high-end appliances, including Subzero refrigerator, Wolf range and steam oven.

Our client was very specific about her cooking needs, right down to what kind and how many dishes they like to keep close at hand, and what kind of storage containers they use – so every aspect of this kitchen was designed around her.

The overall theme for this kitchen is calm and classic reflecting our client’s dreams and lifestyle needs.  This  beautiful, bright and highly functional kitchen is completely open to the family room and eating area.  The exhilarating view of the backyard is a prominent feature of the space and provides easily access the gracious patio and pool.

Our client has stated that “this kitchen here dreams a reality” – that is a true testament to the design!

What was your favourite aspect of the project?

The best part about this project was translating our client’s dreams into a reality.  Our client has a hectic day job in the financial sector.  At our first meeting (and many more after!) she emphasized the importance of creating a space with a ‘calm’ feeling.  She wakes up early in the morning to start her day and wanted to have her coffee in an inspiring and soothing space.

It’s always a challenge to translate clients’ verbal wishes into a visual design that addresses all of the clients’ needs, but it is the most rewarding aspect of our job!  In this case, we have exceeded our client’s expectations with a kitchen that is “even better than they imagined.”

Our client was very specific about her cooking needs, right down to what kind and how many dishes she likes to keep close at hand, and what kind of storage containers she uses – so every aspect of this kitchen was designed around her.

She also cooks a great deal for her family and enjoys entertaining. We installed the finest appliances and utilities to make cooking an enjoyable experience.  This kitchen places a great deal of emphasis on day-to-day living – functionality is key.  The classic details are refined yet clean and nothing overly elaborate. This creates a highly functional environment that is calm on the eyes and feeds the soul.

Why does the design work so well?

Our client was very specific about her cooking needs, right down to what kind and how many dishes she likes to keep close at hand, and what kind of storage containers she uses – so every aspect of this kitchen was designed around her.

She also cooks a great deal for her family and enjoys entertaining. We installed the finest appliances and utilities to make cooking an enjoyable experience.  This kitchen places a great deal of emphasis on day-to-day living – functionality is key.  The classic details are refined yet clean and nothing overly elaborate. This creates a highly functional environment that is calm on the eyes and feeds the soul.

How do you feel the design integrates into the wider environment ?

This kitchen design also solved some previous problems with the flow of the home and connections with the outside environment.  Previously the kitchen was inset back by 8 feet and there was only one window facing the back garden.  The lighting and visibility into the garden was poor and the flow into the family room was less than ideal.   The new design solved all of these design problems and more.  We created a beautiful, bright and highly functional space, completely open to the family room and eating area.  The exhilarating view of the backyard is now a prominent feature of the space with the addition of large French doors, which allows our client to easily access the gracious patio and pool.  We also wanted to design a visually large kitchen that would suite the proportions of the house.  This kitchen looks like it has always been a part of this home – perfectly suited and fitted!

What specialist or artisan skills were involved in the making of the project?

We worked with our millwork teams to complete the cabinetry. There are many intricate details in the interior cabinets making highly functional for our client.  This kitchen has every modern innovation imaginable – draw kicks, and storage and organization systems. A metal fabricator was also used for the custom stainless steel range hood.
